In southeastern Washington State, Bechtel National, Inc. is designing and constructing the world’s largest vitrification facility to convert radioactive wastes stored in underground tanks to solid glass. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP), also known as the Vit Plant, is located on the Department of Energy’s Hanford Site, near Richland, Wash.
